A registered nurse fresh out of school can expect to earn a median wage of $20-$25 per hour. With more than 10 years' experience, the median hourly wage increases to $26-$34 per hour. Because nurses are currently in short supply, many hospitals are currently offering attractive signing bonuses as well.

Starting salary is about $50K. It depends on the work, job title (responsibility), and locale. After a few years of experience, a BSN-RN in NYC can potentially make $65K, while the same position in Seattle will likely pay around $53K. In many hospital settings general nursing staff is paid the same, regardless of the degree.
