I want to know what the average worker makes.

Bureau of Economic Analysis reported in 2009 that the average national salary index was $40711.61. It is interesting to note that federal workers in the same jobs are non-federal employees make up to 50% more. The average worker in the US earns about $9880 in benefits, pension, etc., while the same federal worker averages $40,785 in non-wage benefits.

The median salary (which means 50% get paid above this, 50% get paid below this) for all workers in the US is $43000. If you have a PhD, it's $97000
