Ribbonfish are long, slender fish with a mouthful of teeth. They range in sub-tropical and tropical areas, but may be seen in northern hemispheres as well. Many people confuse them with cutlassfish - which are essentially the same. Ribbonfish are generally only used as bait for larger fish, and are not consumed.

There are 10 species of fish called ribbon fish, all of them saltwater, some of them used as bait fish by anglers. Google ribbonfish to read about each species and find out which one in particular you are looking for. None of them are marketed for the aquarium hobby.
