Here is the situation. 2 runners on base. Hit in run is in place. Batter hits a pop up on the infield (infield fly) 1 out. guy at second stops, guy on first passes him 2 outs. Ball hits guy at second 3rd out.

According to resources it IS called an unassisted triple play and means that defense doesn't touch the ball. There are a lot of circumstances that have to occur in order for this triple play to happen. For instance, the outfielder would have to misjudge the ball etc etc.

I have absolutely no idea. I know what an unassisted triple play is but never heard of a no defense touch triple play. Maybe they are the same thing. It basically means only one fielder handles the ball. Triple play is getting three outs in one continuous play during game.

The Unassisted Triple Play is the rarest form of triple play and has only been recorded to have happened 15 times as far as modern era goes. This type of play is extremely difficult to achieve which explains the rarity of it.  add a comment
