An object that exists "by itself. " In geologic dimensions, it is usually visible or identifiable from a distance. Strangely, geologic monoliths are actually composed of several smaller units of materials - not resolvable on the same scale. So one man's monolith is another's "conglomerate," "aggregate," or "multilith. "

A monolith is a geological feature. Usually it's a mountain and it is formed of a single massive stone or rock, or a single piece of rock placed as, or within, a monument. Erosion usually exposes the geological formations.

A monolith is a large block of stone consisting of only one piece. The term originates in the Greek, where 'mono' means single, as in monologue or monogamy, and 'lith' means stone. A monolith can be a naturally occuring formation or man made.
