What causes mold on the central heat and ac unit?

I have mold on my central heat and ac unit.

The mold is caused by condensation which is most likely coming for the condenser. Make sure that you unit is properly installed and has proper drainage to avoid the excess condensation. The unit should be cleaned regularly to avoid the buildup of mold.

moisture from condensation traps mold spores from the air or spores that were already there. The dark, moist environment provides a great place for mold to grow.

AC Units greatly differ by brand. Since there are some many types of brands I would insist that you refer to your particular AC User Manual. They are quite useful.

The main cause of mold in any situation is moisture. Maybe you could try using a de-humidifyer. Another solution would be to run the heating unit for a few minutes a day until mold dries.
