cooking substitutes

Question by  Westcoast8891 (9)

What is a good substitute for vanilla?

I never seem to have any onhand.

If you don't have any vanilla, you can use almond extract. Of course, it will taste a little different. Another option would be to add lemon flavoring or a little bit of lemon juice. You can also leave out the vanilla without substituting anything.

A good substitute for vanilla is a banana. Whether you are baking cookies, or making shakes, the flavor of banana is just as delicious. A crushed up banana will add more liquid and volume, so pleae allow for this in your recipe.
