How is white vanilla extract different?

I have a recipe that calls for white vanilla extract.

The flavor is the same, but it is clear in color, instead of brown. This is good to use in white cakes and frostings.

White vanilla is often used when the brownish color of regular vanilla flavoring is to be avoided. It is usually available with the cake and candy decorating supplies and provides the same flavor as traditional extract.
