A carb coma is when you ingest a large quantity of foods containing carbohydrates. Initially you have a blood sugar spike in your system, but afterwards your blood sugar drops back down and you feel lethargic. Watching your intake throughout the day can limit this effect. Try not to eat a ton of carbs in one sitting.

A carb coma is the tiredness that you feel after eating too many carbohydrates. You might experience a quick boost of energy after eating carbs, but this temporary surge is often followed by a crash or "carb coma. "

When you have a carb-heavy meal you may feel lethargic or sleepy an hour or two later. This is because it requires a lot of digestive effort to break down the complex carbohydrates to simple sugars, and blood flows away from your brain to your stomach.

It's the nap you want to take after eating a meal that is heavy on carbs. Next time you have a meal that includes rice, pasta, bread or potatoes, pay attention to how you feel one or two hours later. If you feel sleepy - that's a carb coma.

The comatose state you will find yourself in shortly after you eat pasta with garlic bread. Or pancakes, syrup and hash browns. Or glazed donuts. Or a hamburger with french fries. Or a sandwich with chips.
