What happens to the absent parent if they don't pay child support?

The local or state government will begin an investigation into the case. Once a ruling is made, then they are legally in their rights to garnish wages, tax refunds etc.

They can lose their visitation rights, or they can have their wages garnished by the government so they have to pay.

Once you owe so much they can actually arrest you. Another thing that can happen is they can dock your paychecks. This is the ONLY LEGAL form of unauthorized paycheck docking.
