If the patient dies without a spouse, estate or assets then the bills will be forgiven. However if there are funds then it will taken out of that. If there is a living spouse or dependent then the money will be divided amongst all interested parties. If there is property it is usaully sold to give the debtor its money.

Several scenarios can occur that depend on the specific situation. Some things to consider are: what type of health insurance the decedent had, the economic situation of the decedent, or the finances of the estate. Some hospitals will negotiate accumulated bills and in some situations, may write them off entirely. Work with your facility directly to cover specifics.
