What happened with the "Tonight Show with Jay Leno"?

The "Tonight Show" franchise had some controversy this year. Jay Leno was set to retire, and Conan O'Brien took his place. O'Brien's ratings weren't great, and Leno didn't really want to retire, so Leno was given the show back, and Conan is about to begin a new show on a cable network.

The tonight show with Jay Leno ended once Jay Leno decided to retire. Once Jay Leno had retired long time late night host Conan O'Brien was brought in to replace him. When O'Brien replaced Leno, it became apparent that O'Brien could not keep up with David Letterman in the ratings. NBC then fired O'Brien and brought Leno back to host.
