Regarding the most important and entertaining story line in the show (among Dawson, Joe and Pacey), Joey and Dawson realize that although the romance has died, they will always love one another and will remain soul mates. Perhaps to the dismay of many Dawson followers, and to the delight of others, Joey chooses Pacey in the end.
