Nintendo selected that name because is very easy to pronounce and to remember and sounds like "WE" meaning that the game is for everybody. Also it was said that the two "i" mean to persons standing together playing.

Really the title doesn't really mean anything. Some people say that the sound of it name is meant to emphasize that it was created or "we" gamers. Other people say the name is used because it creates a kind of fun and excitement that make people say "wee".

Wii isn't an acroynym! It's the official name of Nintendo's gaming platform once code-named "Revolution" and first released in 2005. Nintendo's official statement was: "Wii sounds like 'we', which emphasizes that the console is for everyone. Wii can easily be remembered by people around the world, no matter what language they speak. No confusion. No need to abbreviate. Just Wii. "

"wii" is the Japanese language nominalization of the word "we", since "i" is pronounced "ee" in Japanese. It is also meant to represent how the console brings people together for gaming, and belongs to everyone, in all age groups. Also, the two i's next to eachother resemble two people next to eachother.

Some say that the name wii comes from the way that it is controlled. Wireless inter-interface. The hardware that is connected to the main interface is what they are talking about when using the phrase inter-interface. This includes the nunchucks and such. Others say that the 2 is represent two players standing side by side.

The Wii's name comes from the way it is used, controller wise. Wireless inter-interface: inter-interface meaning the nunchuck connects to the main "Wiimote. " Its a clever name and a valid technical anagram.
