A toner works with your hair color to make sure the result after dying your hair is one shade of color instead of a bunch of unwanted hues and colors. For instance, if you dye your hair blonde, without toner use, chances are it will be brassy and other undesirable colors.

The toner activates the color so that is can evenly spread through your hair. Also works like a base to keep it from becoming too acidic and eating your hair.

Commonly, toner is used when you are lightening your hair. It is used to get rid of uneven color, brassy color, or it can also put pigment back into the hair to make it look more natural than just the straight bleached look.

Hair toner has the same effect as skin toner, it evens the texture from root to tip. Toners can be bought at most stores that offer hair care, or at a beauty supply store.

A toner is a semi-permanant hair color that makes color darker, or tones out the unwanted color by using the opposite color (to tone brassy highlights, use a violet toner)

Toner will neutralize any odd colors that result from hair coloring. It will eliminate andy pink or blue undertones that often occur.
