What does the saying "Too many cooks spoil the broth" mean?

Too much input, too many ideas, too many egos involved in any project impedes the project, rather than enhancing it. "Too many cooks" is sort of like working with a committee.

The more people who are involved in a project, the harder it is to keep things running smoothly. When one individual is able to focus on the project without undue interference from others, it allows for creative thinking and methods that word for him or her. When everyone gives conflicting input, it is difficult to make a plan of action.
