Yes a 6 quart is big enough for most recipes and especially for only four people. I have one that size and only cook for my family of four too and I've never had any problems.

Yes. A slow cooker of that size is usually large enough for a nice roast or whatever you are cooking for your family. There are so many things that you are able to make in a slow cooker. You can find a lot of family style slow cooker recipes online.
