The MIL alerts the driver that there is a malfunction with the vehicle, then allows a tech to diagnose the problem eaiser due to the computers code storage from the mil illumiunating.

If you mean the check engine light, it lights up to let the driver know that the ECM has kicked up an error code.

The malfunction indicator lamp is also called the check engine light. This means there is a problem with something that has to do with your engine. Please bring it to a repair shop to find out the problem.

When an important issue occurs a code is generated and stored in the computer. If your light is on have the computer scanned to determine what it is for.
