Mold is detrimental to cement statues both because of the moisture that it produces and because of the overall appearance of the statue after the mold has begun to grow. As mold grows, the moisture that builds under it can damage the cement's organic compound and compromise it structurally. Cement statues look best visually without mold.

It can cause the cement to begin to crack. Mold works its way down in crevasses and deteriorates the material around it.

Mold does not damage the integrity of the statue. It will not rot it or cause it to decay. If you would like to get rid of the mold, use a diluted bleach solution and place the statue in a sunny, dry place.

Black mold is the type that will usually form on cement statues due to moisture. This type of mold as with any mold is dangerous if inhaled. The mold forms on the cement, then slowly grows, covering the statute completely if not removed. It will break down the composition of the cement, which damages the statue.

It grows on the surface or any other aperture of the statue and grows by living off the trapped moisture. As the mold proliferates it traps ever increasing amounts of water which, in conjunction with the excreted acids caused by metabolism, makes the cement brittle. If left untreated the statue will eventually desintegrate.

The only thing I've ever notice is discoloration of the statues. Once the statues have been cleaned using elbow grease, a scrub brush and a little bleach, they will be as good as new. I have never seen any damage as a result of the growth of mold on the variety of statues I've owned.

If you are talking about the bacterial mold, nothing really will happen to the cement statue. If it is 100% cement, there is a slight chance that mold will grow, but mold needs nutrients, and cement doesnt have nutrients. So if mold did grow, it would be a easy removal.
