What does it mean to be "thick"?

In slang a person uses the word "thick" to imply that a person is overweight. Saying that someone is "thick" would imply that they are not skinny and wear their weight well. Another use of the word "thick" is to describe someone that is stupid. That is considered an insult.

It depends on what they mean by that. If they say something along the lines of 'thick-skinned' that means that you are a tough person, and as such is mostly likely a complement. Being thick headed indicates that you are dull and stupid (in other words an insult).
