Coronavirus in kittens generally will not cause a problem. The kitten may experience diarrhea and/or upper respiratory disease, but this will pass with proper treatment from your veterinarian. A problem may occur if the kitten develops feline infectious peritonitis, which is a mutant form of coronavirus.

It could induce flu-like symptoms in the kitten, which include fever, muscle pain, lethargy, gastrointestinal symptoms, cough, or sore throat. These symptoms are generally significantly more severe than those from the regular flu. Coronavirus is occasionally deadly. This kitten should be isolated from other felines.

Most cats are exposed to coronavirus as kittens. It can cause mild diarrhea and intestinal inflammation, or be asymptomatic. The kitten builds some antibodies but the virus remains in the intestinal tract for life. It is harmless unless it mutates into Feline Infectious Peritonitis, which is always fatal (but rare).

It depends which corona virus. Some can be serious, and others are not so much. Some Corona viruses cause Feline Infectious Peritonitis. The scary part is that many cats with FIP are also positive for feline leukemia or feline immunodeficiency virus.
