What does it mean if he text me to say goodnight instead of calling me?

With all of the technology that we have to communicate with, you shouldn't take it personally that he didn't call. Instead, you should be flattered that he took the time to say good night to you. His medium might be text, Facebook or email but if he didn't care about you, then he wouldn't have bothered to send the text.

It means that it is easier to text than to pick up the phone. It is a habit. If it bothers you, talk to him about it. Insist that you do not feel a connection over text message, and you would prefer to talk on the phone.

It really depends on the context of your relationship... It could just mean he is busy elsewhere, but wants to let you know he is thinking about you, or that he just isn't in the mood for a long conversation.
