Answer by  adavis (10)

Muscle injuries sustained from seizure or muscular degeneration will raise the level of creatine phosphokinase (CPK) enzyme in cats. Elevated CPK is frequently associated with heart disease, specifically clotting (since proper blood flow to muscles is obstructed) and heart attack. High levels of CPK may also be caused by anorexia.

CPK, or creatine phosphokinase, present in elevated levels indicates may be an indication of a recent seizure or muscle disorder in your cat due to muscle trauma. These are serious conditions that should be addressed by your veterinarian immediately. However, elevated CPK may also be the result of a poorly collected blood sample.

If your cat was very upset at the vet, and was very active and needing to be subdued, that may have caused the elevated CPK. However, this can be indicative of heart disease, so please ask your vet to explain the elevated level.

This elevation could cause liver disease in cats and could be found in dogs as well. Try to maintain to normal if possible
