For a child's sunburn you could try to use a calamine lotion or talcum powder and a children's over the counter pain reliever to relieve the heat and pain.

You can buy aftersun lotions that do not contain aloe vera, and also sftersun especially for children. If you don't want to use aftersun apply ordinary moisturiser or emollient instead. Aqueous cream has very simple ingredients. Or you could go down the natural route and apply natural yughurt to the sore skin.

Usually people put aloe on sunburns. It's cooling and helps you heal. If you are worried about an aloe allergy you can try a lotion made with cocoa butter or shea butter.

Any medicated cream should take the fire out. Some people find relief by using plain old tea(without the sugar).Another old remedy is white vinegar. There are products available in sprays that don't contain aloe. It's going to be sore no matter what you apply. A severe sunburn should be treated by your child's doctor.
