If you have chosen to change the transmission fluid on your car then you must keep the fluid in an approved container for disposal. Take this container to your local auto parts store for their fluid disposal program. Some may charge you a fee, but dumping anywhere can result in fines and trouble with the law.

Drain it into a pan and pour into old gallon milk jugs and take it to the nearest hazardous waste center. Most counties have one as a free service.

After draining it from the vehicle you can take it to any large reputable auto shop. They will dispose of it for you in the proper eco friendly way. If they wont try another shop.

Contact your local fire department station and/or local auto parts stores. They usually accept chemical waste fluids for free or for a nominal fee. Sometimes counties will sponsor amnesty days where you can dispose of chemicals and tires for free.

Basically you have to replace with a new transmission fluid. The contaminated one should be dispose of properly. But it really depends to the extent of contamination. If you're in a tight budget you may use it a couple of hundred miles but don't expect good performance.
