Starfish eat meat, mainly shellfish like oysters and clams, but they also eat small fish. They have even been known to be cannibalistic, eating their fellow starfish. They pull their food in with their arms and push their stomach out of their mouths to digest their food.

Starfish eat clams, oysters and muscles and other bivalves as well as arthropods, small fish, and mollusks by injecting one of their stomachs between the shells of the bivalve and pulling its stomach back in when it has partially digested the animal. Then the food is transferred to another stomach where the digestion is completed.
