What do I need to recreate antique glazing?

Pretty easy DIY! Clean and sand the wood first to get a dull finish - use some steel wool to buff the shiny spots. Apply a base coat of enamel and allow to dry. Then use the Antiquing Glaze with a brush one surface at a time. Allow to dry.

I used a ready made Antique kit on my wooden furniture. It's really easy to use and doesn't take much time. The kit had a base enamel and glaze (I used coordinated glaze, but you can also try contrast glaze). Get it at your local hardware/paint shop.

Sand the object well. Choose a off white color for the base coat of paint. Apply 2 coats. Sand the coats the primer after each coating. Apply a clear vinyl coat and sand it. Use a T-shirt to apply an oil based wood stain. For darker areas, use more stain. Wipe off areas where you want a lighter contrast.

You would glaze it by first sanding the santique and buffing it out. Then when that is done you can put some enamel on it and with the glaze you bought apply!

Antique Glazing is achieved by the worn appearance of furniture. Either by sanding or carving you can make to wood appear older. Let wax stand to get a patina look.

You will need paint and a glazing base. Mix them together and apply onto the surface. That will actually be sufficient to create the antique glazing. Now a days, you can purchase the antique glazing directly from Home Depot so it shouldn't be much of a problem to paint it on to the surface.
