Go to the court immediately and reschedule the appearance. This process varies in different municipalities, but be persistent until you get to the right party. Once you reschedule your court date, find out if a bench warrant has been issued in your name and clear that up.

Contact the court immediately and give them a valid reason for not being there. Ask if the date can be reset and if not, what was determined by the judge.

Contact the court as soon as possible and make arrangements to appear. If you were ill or otherwise unable to attend, take documentation with you. Do this sooner than later!

Most likely the judge will issue a warrant for your arrest for failure to appear. This is the time to be pro-active. Contact the judge's office and explain yourself right away why you did not appear and let them know it was a mistake and you will appear next time.

It depends on the crime, but usually the court will put a warrant out for your arrest and will put you in jail for a time period to be determined later. It's best not to run from the cops. Contact your local court house and see what you should do to sort this out.
