There's no point in trying to force it, so giving it a break is a good idea. You might also just try changing what you're offering. Try sweeter veggies (carrots) or fruits (apple, pear).
Don't push it too hard. As long as the baby is taking breastmilk or formula he should be getting most of what he needs. Try to make solid foods a positive experience and focus on exploring the new flavors or textures. If you push it too much he might resist just because of your reaction.
I think the most important thing is to make sure he is eating healthy. You shouldnt force him but gradually introduce it by combining it with aplesauce or other baby foods.
I would not stop completely, but perhaps try a variety of soft foods-- cottage cheese, smushed bananas, peas, et cetera. Besides that feed them Gerber Graduates, and keep trying!
If your child refuses one or two time you should not get fed up. Infants take there own time to get acquainted with solid food. Give him solid food of different tastes and start giving one spoon and then slowly increase quantity. This way the infant will start liking but never force.
