When deciding how to make a coffee table, consider the height of the surrounding furniture. A low table can be stylish, but if you have to stoop too much to reach it, impractical. You also might want to go for a rounded shape so that it hurts less if you bump into it.

Think about the size of the room - you want to be able to walk around it so it is not in the way.
