                                                          The boxing day earthquake hit Sumatra and the Andaman Sea to its north, December 26, 2004.  It registered 9.3 magnitude.  It was the second-largest earthquake since seismographs were invented in 1900. It triggered a large tsunami off the coast of of Sumatran.  It washed away whole cities in Indonesia.  Approximately 240,000 people died and 47,000 from the tsunami.
