There are many reasons a dog's nose can lose pigmentation. This condition can occur naturally in some breeds as they age, while others have a fading of pigmentation during winter months. Injury or medical problems are also causes for this condition and should be checked out by a veterinarian.

Anything from contact dermatitis to the natural genetics of a particular breed can cause the de-pigmentation of a canines nose. Hypothyroidism, discoid lupus, and even some versions of carcinoma, a form of cancer, can lead to this condition. Many veterinarians, if asked, will tell you there are several more conditions that lead to this as well.

Is he a puppy or a younger dog? Often times the pigments change in the skin and other places as the dog gets older.

Lack of iodine in the diet can cause pigmentation loss. Worst case scenario might be a skin cancer. Either way, for peace of mind, have your vet check it out
