What could be wrong with my Grand Prix transmission?

You can have a cloged filter or bad valve body or modulator valve. It can just be time to replace from all the years of use, or maybe first check fluid levels some people tend to overook that.

First check your fluid level. If it is low it can cause shifting problems. Otherwise it is probably an internal solenoid failure which would require opening up the trans.

Depending on the type of transmission (automatic or manual) there are many things that can go wrong with a modern transmission. Make sure to perform all the recommended maintenance on the vehicle, including changing and maintaining the transmission fluid level as indicated in Owner's Manual.

The bands in the transmission are probably slipping . The real word for the bands is clutches in the transmission .It could be somting so simple as a bad connection
