What could be wrong if the front end shakes in my 1998 Jeep Grand Cherokee?

A number of problems could be ailing your Jeep. Issues with the axel, tires and steering column are usually the main culprit. I would have it check by a repairman on site so they could look in there and get a better sence of what's going on.

It does it constantly it could be a wheel bearing, a cv shaft, unbalanced tires, or loose suspension parts. If it only happens under braking it could be warped rotors.

Shaking can be caused by a lot of stuff. I would be sure that you front wheels are aligned properly, the brake aren't warped, and all suspension parts are tight.

Shakes could be many things depending on when it occurs: -Only during braking would point at the front rotors. -All the time could be an "egg" in the tire (look for a bulge) or one that's out of balance. -Only during acceleration would point to a universal joint.

Sounds like your rack and pinion, If it also makes a noise as yo turn the wheel then that is definately that
