My automatic shift is stiff.

If this is the case, it may be a symptom of low gearbox oil which you can top up yourself or have your local auto repair center do it for you. If the stiffness came suddenly or gets progressively worse it may be indicative of a larger problem which you should have professionaly checked as soon as possible.

You may need to replace a worn shifter cable. Another possibility is that the stop lamp switch may be starting to fail.

It could be the linkage from the shifter to the transmission needing maintenance, or trouble with the shifting mechanism in the transmission itself. Have your dealer look at it.

You need to replace the shifter cables due to being bound or stiff. The cable run from the shifter to the transmission. This is the only thing that can cause this condition. Shifter cables are fairly easy to replace and may take about an hour. Do it soon before they break.

if your shift is sticking try checking to see if you have enough transmission fluid. if you do then it could mean that you have either a faulty transmission or a bad solonoid.

The shift cable could be corroded. Also look for hair, dirt or anything else like that jammed into the area.
