An automatic car is a vehicle that shifts gears itself, all you have to do is put it into drive and the car does the rest. A car that has to be shifted by the driver is called a standard, or a manual. Manual cars are becoming less common, autmatics still have something like a stick shift but its not.

An "automatic" car is one that shifts automatically. What you're looking for is called a manual or standard transmission where you have to manually move the stick shift to change the gears.
