What could be the cause of my GameCube overheating?

More than likely its not continuing to be an overheating problem but rather that there was a single overheat which damaged some piece of your system.

One cause may be if you are playing it for long extended periods of time without a break, or when you are doing playing you never turn the system off. In both of these scenarios the system never gets a chance to cool off.

Setting the GameCube on a hard surface lets it ventilate better and will help stop the overheating. Also, do not stack the system on top of others to prevent overheating.
