Psoriasis is a common cause for red blotches on the skin of the arms and legs, and is especially prevalent in the dry winter months. Use only mild and natural soaps and be sure to use plenty of moisturizer throughout the day. Also use a dandruff shampoo several times per week on the affected areas of the skin.

Redness or blotchiness on the skin could be caused by a large number of things - sensitive skin, dry weather, allergy to a laundry detergent, allergy to something in the environment, dry skin, exzema, dermatitis, friction from clothing, or a basic rash.

This could be a sign of dry skin. Try using some special lotion that is medicated. It may not smell great, but it should clear the redness.

Reactions to plants often leave red, blotchy marks on your extremities. If you have recently been in any woods, you probably came in contact with some type of poisonous plant, such as poison ivy or poison oak. Seek attention from a dermatologist if it doesn't fade away.
