What color should I paint a dark basement?

Use lighter tones, such as white, off white, light tan, etc., this way the artificial lighting will help give the appearance of more light.

The basement should be painted a sunny yellow or light green to give the impression that there is a lot of light in the space.

I would paint it a neutral color such as light tan, light grey or any other light color. I would avoid painting with dark colors as this would create an even darker basement. Painting floor a light grey and accenting with another neutral color would create some ight as well.

For a dark basement that doesn't have much light, I would definitely paint the walls a light but cheerful color.
