What causes elevated platelets and elevated RDW in the blood?

Both of these will be elevated due to hemolytic anemia. Red blood cells are destroyed too soon in the body and the bone marrow cannot compensate for the premature loss.

Eleved platelets and RDW are signs that something is wrong with your bone marrow. You make have a marrow infection (osteomylitis) or something more serious like leukemia. See your doctor.

Some of the many underlying conditions that may cause this elevation include, increased function of the adrenal cortex, polycythemia vera, anabolic metabolism, living at high altitudes.
