If blood is truly in the stool, then yes you should be concerned. This could be an indication of cancer. However, hemorrhoids and anal fissures can cause rectal bleeding.

It can be a number of things, ranging from polyps to hemorrhoid issues to more serious conditions. It would definitely be something that should be checked by your primary care physician or gastroenterologist.

There are many causes for the symptom you are referring to. Some minor, such as hemorrhoids or anal fissures. Then the more serious, such as Ulcerative Colitis, Viral Hepatitis, Dysentery, Diverticulosis, Diverticulitis and of course and those that could be life threatening, such as stomach cancer or cancer of the large intestine. You should be concerned and check it out ASAP
