EGR- Exhaust Gas Recirculation. The EGR valve operates by injecting exhaust gas into the cylinder reducing cylinder temperature increasing gas mileage. It operates in a very harsh environment where exhaust gas flows through the valve. The carbon and volatile compounds in the exhaust gas build up in the EGR system causing failure.

tipical malfuctions include diapham leaks or the egr gasket. most of them come from vecum leaks frim the valve or gasket.
