What causes AC icing?

Answer by  ZanArkand (7)

AC icing is most likely caused by insufficient airflow across the evaporation coil, or insufficient refrigerant in the system due to a leak. Blocked airflow is most likely the result of a dirty or improperly installed air filter. Another cause of icing is running the AC when the temperature is too low.

Air conditioners will ice up when they are unable to drain excess condensation from the coils. If the air conditioner is improperly installed, the condensation from the cooling process cannot drain. This will cause the condensation to rapidly cool and ice up on the coils.

It is caused because the thermostat is not working properly. You can shut the ac off and let it thaw out and replace the thermostat.

One of the main reason why AC icing is because there is a lack of cooling that is coming from the AC. The best thing to find the solution is to turn off the AC and check the various areas to see where the problem is coming from. Changing air filters and bad fan motors are causes.
