Dogs commonly experience anxiety when they feel threatened due to loud noises, improper diet, and/or competition with another animal. Lack of exercise can also cause this.

If your dog was rescued or adopted, he may have encountered things to cause great fear. If you have always owned him, things around him such as noise and confusion may just be too much for his personality. Check with your SPCA or locally for a socialization class, give him a sheltered quiet place that's only his, like a crate.
