What can you tell me about paleolithic cave paintings?

Their purpose was unknown, but it wasn't decoration - the areas they were painted in weren't lived in. Caves with famous paintings include Chauvet, Lascaux, Altamira and Cussac.

Paleolithic cave paintings date from a period of around 20,000 years ago and are most well known in present day France. The paintings consist mainly of the animals that people hunted. Anthropologists believe that the paintings brought the hunters good luck. Maybe, the paintings, just as paintings to today, just depict what was important to the painter.
