The Native Americans have a cicular view of the universe. They see manifestation of internal illness as indicative of universal maladies. This is evident in their construction of sweatlodges and other ceremonial buildings.

Native American medicine incorporates beliefs that include spiritual balance, consequences from disease causing behavior, and healthy living. Circle symbolism was often tied with the medicine wheel and possibly as a way of making a sacred area with 4 to 6 divisions representing direction, sacred animal, and spiritual representation.
