Answer by  Sergiu (344)

Anteroseptal infarct is a heart stroke, "anteroseptal" being its precise location in the heart tissue. Septum is the wall that separates the right and left chambers of the heart. Anterior means front side of the body, as opposed to back side. The term means that the location of the stroke is on the front side of the heart wall.

The word infarct means the death of brain tissue due to ischemia which is a fancy way of saying decreased blood supply. The word anteroseptal just indicates the specific area in the brain where this tissue death occurred. This is important as it dictates the type of symptoms a person will have.

In the heart, there is a wall that separates the two lower halves of the heart chambers. This is a type of heart attack where the tissue in the front of this wall dies.

An anteroseptal infarct refers to part of the anterior wall of the heart just above the septum dying. It's usually due to a blockage in one of the coronary arteries.
