Brake calipers gather dust and dirt between the cylinder and piston over time, which scratches the metal, impairing performance. Depending on how serious the problem is, just disassembling and cleaning the caliper could work. Next step is getting them refurbished, and for serious scratching of the cylinders/pistons the calipers may be beyond repair and need replacing.

You can buy brake caliper repair kits or even refurbished brake calipers for most cars at most car parts places. One comon problem with calipers is over extension of the piston(s) due to excessive pad wear. It is also possible that the pad slide rails are worn and cause the pad to catch and not release from the rotor.

Your question is not descriptive enough to identify the problem. Brake caliper problems can vary and may involve a hose leak, worn down pads, bad design, or a bad rotor.

If the brake caliper is not fully disengaging, the entire unit needs replacement. Uneven pad wear can be cause by sticking caliper pins, which need to be replaced or relubed.
