Remove front baseboard covers and sand surfaces. Wipe down, dry, apply RustOleum Protective Enamel Paint, letting baseboards dry and apply another coat. Do the same to wall units. Reassemble.

Try scrubbing with a rust removal product, or there are covers you can buy that will hide the ugly residue. Ultimate choice, of course, is replace the baseboard heating element.

To begin with, use soft scrub or bleach to clean the rust from the baseboards. Then use a latex based paint to prevent further rusting.

Unfortunately, you'll have to strip the wood down to the bare surface and start again. Use wood bleach or oxalic acid. Then repaint and you should be as good as new. Avoid new rust by installing a fan or space heater to dry the air after showers.

The basics of rust removal apply, no matter if the rust is indoors or outdoors, covers a large or small area or has been present for a long time. Fortunately, there are a number of rust removal products sold at home centers, drugstores and supermarkets.
