If the student was a high school graduate, I try to make a gift basket with things they will need for a dorm, such as a mini coffee maker, mugs, coffee and spoons. Another good graduation gift could be a laundry basket, detergent, iron and instructions on how to sort, wash and fold!

Consider something that is useful to a young graduate entering the work force, like a watch or a silver pen. You can also engrave it for a unique personal touch.

Something personalized is always nice, I've seen really nice posters with name and graduation dates, even simulated magazine covers. Even t-shirts, you could make your own gift basket, with these items and favorite goodies.

Most graduates need money for the next phase of their lives, you could make a money tree full of small bills. Also, Dr. Seuss' "Oh, The Places You Will Go."
